After attending an event in the spring and deep-diving into research, Char Rynders says a chain of events led her to the permanent jewelry business. The Dahlia Home Decor & Gifts owner is at the helm of a new startup, Link Envy.
Link Envy offers permanent jewelry – chains welded together using a special tool. It creates a seamless, clasp-less look. Gone are the days of constantly moving the necklace clasp from falling in front.
The process is painless, Rynders said.
“You’d come in, pick out a style of chain that you like – a bracelet, anklet, necklace, whatever you choose – I would custom fit it to you, put a little connector on it, give it a little spark with the mini welder, and that’s it,” she said.
The process from start to finish takes around 15 minutes. The welding tool is extremely small and provides a spark without hurting the person getting the jewelry.
The jewelry can last for years if properly cared for. The chains are sterling silver and 14-carat gold filled. She has a variety of thin chains to choose from. Prices range from $45 to $80, depending on the type of chain.
She’ll be getting charms to go with the jewelry as well, so people will have that option.
Rynders, who took a training course and learned the patience for the craft, can easily remove the chain if need be.
Once the chain is on, she’ll provide aftercare instructions that ensure the longevity of the jewelry.
Rynders said what piqued her interest was the bonding experience it can provide, too.
“It’s just something fun to do together,” she said, noting that friends can get them together, mother-daughter duos, couples, or it can be a self-care activity someone does to treat themselves.
She’s open to doing pop-ups and events, too.
Currently, Rynders noted, she believes she’s the only person in the Corry area to offer the service, which is housed at Dahlia, 10 S. Center St. People can stop in and get linked or make an appointment.
She said even if someone is just curious, they’re welcome to stop in and check it out or ask questions.
The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
